1 Timothy 1:1-20
Verse of the day:
The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. (1 Timothy 1:5)
In his letter to Timothy, Paul is restating the reason that he left this young man to help pastor the young church in Ephesus. Evidently, some people were teaching doctrine that was contrary to what was being taught by the Apostles. Paul wanted Timothy to stay and teach the church the way of the Truth. Paul reminds Timothy the purpose of all spiritual teaching.
Our goal, as pastors and teachers, should be to teach so that the people hearing will be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and a genuine faith. Our goal as students of the Word, is to live our lives, motivated out of a pure heart. We are to live a life that produces a clear conscience. We are to believe in God, his son Jesus and his everlasting Word, with a genuine faith.
The process of discipleship was always intended to be a partnership between teacher and student: follow me as I follow Christ. Are you a teacher of the Word? Who are you leading toward a genuine faith, a clear conscience, and a pure heart? Are you a student of the Word? Are you cultivating a clear conscience, a pure heart, and a genuine faith in your own life? We are called to be both teachers of the Word and students of the Word so that all believers will grow and mature.
