Your Days Are Numbered // Wednesday, October 22

Posted: Wednesday, October 22

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Jeremiah 39:1-41:18
2 Timothy 1:1-18
Psalm 90:1-91:16
Proverbs 26:1-2

Verse of the day:

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12)

A while back I heard a story about a guy who wanted to use his time wisely. He figured out how many more years he was expected to live using actuarial tables, and then put marbles into a jar, each marble representing a week. Each Sunday, he would remove a marble and watch the pile shrink, encouraging him to remember the importance of each day. Kind of morbid, isn’t it?!

Andy Stanley says that whenever we think we have an unlimited supply of something we tend to waste it. (Think buffets, money) While many things in life can be replenished time cannot. Life is short and therefore our time is a precious commodity that must not be wasted.

Most mornings I pray along these lines…

‘God, what are your priorities for today? Who do I need to reach out to? How do you want me to use my time?’ God answers that prayer and a day led by Him is adventurous and fulfilling.

Be wise with your time today; your days are numbered.
