Verse of the day:

May all my thoughts be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord. (Psalm 104:34)

What defines who we are? Is it our thoughts or our actions? A.W. Tozer is quoted as having said, “What we think about when we are free to think about what we will – that is what we are or will soon become.” We all can be tempted by random sinful thoughts that enter our minds. However, when we allow those thoughts to stay and we begin to meditate on them then those thoughts have the power to determine the course of our life.

The Psalmist proclaims his desire to have all of his thoughts be pleasing to the Lord- and that should be our desire too! Our thoughts may be hidden from the people around us but God is always aware of what is going on in our minds. Jesus warned about the importance of our thoughts when he said, “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” What we think about determines the course of our life.

Philippians 4:8 says, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” We can choose what we allow ourselves to think about. If you are struggling in the area of your thoughts use scripture to combat any thought that might be unpleasing to God. Guard your thoughts because they become your words which become your actions.
