The Ancient Path // Monday, October 6

Posted: Monday, October 6

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Jeremiah 6:16-8:7
Colossians 2:8-23
Psalm 78:1-31
Proverbs 24:26

Verse of the day:

This is what the Lord says:“Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls (Jeremiah 6:16)

This passage is very special to me. When Crossroads (our young adult ministry) was formed in 2003 we chose Jeremiah 6:16 to be our guiding verse. Yet college students aren’t the only ones to face major decisions. All of us will find ourselves at the crossroads time and again. A crossroads is that place where there is more than one path available. One path may seem easy and popular. It may be the newest path and it promises a shortcut or a quick fix. But that new path may be untested and it’s destination unsure.

Jeremiah tells us to look at the ancient path, the godly path, and to walk in it. This path is often much harder. It’s uphill and requires discipline. Even risk is involved on the ancient path. But on this path there is one who walks with you. He guides you, lightens your load and encourages you to keep going when you feel like quitting. That’s why this path offers rest for our souls.

If you’re in a moment of decision today let me encourage you to choose the good, ancient path. Walk in it and find the rest that only comes in Jesus.
