The Blessing In Standing

1 Peter 4:7-5:14
Verse of the day:
If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. (1 Peter 4:14)
Take a moment and think about what God wants to accomplish in the world in 2014 and beyond. What does He want to do in our city, in our nation and in our world? Think about where he wants the gospel to be shared. Or where is He wanting the darkness to be pushed back by the light? I think God has much that he wants to accomplish in this time of history, but it won’t come easy. There will be insults and suffering for those who actively participate in God’s work.
1 Peter 4 tells us that the end is near and that we shouldn’t be surprised if we experience suffering. After all, we need only look at Jesus and the disciples as an example. They changed the world, but it cost them their lives. I think of my friends who are serving as missionaries in Islamic nations. These are the areas of greatest need and opportunity, yet they are filled with suffering for those who represent Jesus.
Self-inflicted suffering is no blessing, but there is a profound blessing promised for those who stand up for Christ. Let’s take a stand today and let’s also remember to pray for those who are on the front lines.
