Every Rule Has A Ruler

Verse of the day:
For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God. (Hebrews 7: 19)
Every rule has a ruler.
It’s true. Law cannot exist without authority. The rule to not speed stands on the authority of the Wisonsin State Patrol. The rule to show up to work on time stands on the authority of my employer, and the rule to eat everything on my plate stands on the authority of my mom.
For centuries God’s law rested in the hands of Levite priests—an imperfect authority. Priests sin; priests get sick and die. Priests must first offer sacrifices for their own sins and then for the people. With Christ, God sent a new authority into the world. Jesus’ authority is without sin and without death. We now have confidence in a “better hope.” Priscilla goes on to write, “[Jesus] is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”
