Verse of the day:

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

Have you ever noticed how much we change? Take a look at a picture from just a few years ago and you’re sure to notice a few changes. As time marches on our skin wrinkles, posture bends, pace slows, and at best, hair grays. But, can time altar Jesus? Though physically, He entered time and space and lived as we did, His nature, His essence has never changed. Jesus is impervious to the spell of time.

We change in many ways, but Jesus, never! Moods change us; we can be sweet one day and sour the next. But not so with Jesus; He is never put out or tired. Circumstances change us; the accessible while impoverished can become arrogant when idolized for their wealth or genius. But not so with Jesus; the same Jesus who sought the broken as a poor carpenter seeks the lost as the crowned King of kings. Sin changes us; our souls often close up to those who have hurt us. But not so with Jesus; in fact, Peter’s denial unleashed Jesus’ tenderness.

The heart of Jesus is the same; He loves people. The work of Christ is the same; He is Mediator, Priest, and Intercessor. The declaration, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever” proves that Jesus is God! Who but God could be completely constant?

Take some time to consider how much you truly depend on Jesus’ “sameness.” Then, specifically thank Him for all the ways you depend on His unchangeable nature every day.
