One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Micah 5:1-7:20
Revelation 7:1-17
Psalm 135:1-21
Proverbs 30:5-6

Verse of the day:

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf. (Micah 5:2)

How we begin in life has a lot to say about what type of person we will become as adults. Economics, geography, and heredity will all leave their marks upon our lives and dictate how far we rise and how far we will go. There are many great stories of people that have risen to great heights from humble beginnings. While the vast majority of people in this world will stay living in the same area, work in the same jobs, and live similar lifestyles as their parents, there are some that will break the patterns and go on to great things.

As we turn our thoughts towards the Christmas Season and the celebration of Jesus’ birth, we are once again reminded of the simplicity of Jesus birth and life. Even though he left the most majestic of places, he was born in a little town of Bethlehem. Only a small village; yet the birth place of the King of Kings. God was very specific about every detail of Jesus’ entrance into our world. Hundreds of years before Jesus would be born, he spoke to Micah and let him know the birthplace of his Son.

I don’t know where you came from but I encourage you to have the same vision that Jesus had. He never let his beginnings dictate his direction. He always knew the home he was heading to and the job that he was called to do. Small beginnings can be the birthplace of great miracles.
