Follow the Leader?

3 John 1:1-14
Verse of the day:
Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. (3 John 1:11)
We would all like to put faith in those that we follow. Leaders have an obligation to watch the way they lives their lives as people are sure to follow their example.
We hear a lot today about people that don’t want the harsh spotlight of being a role models. From sports stars and political leaders, to teachers and other community leaders, our young people are having a hard time sizing up who they should be following after.
Leaders have a responsibility to make sure their private life and their public life are worthy of respect and to be emulated. John warns of a church leader who is not acting in the best interest of the church and its members. He warns the recipient of his third letter to not let the negative influence of this leader be their guide on how to live and act. He challenges his readers to, “Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.” (3 John 1:11b, NLT)
Be cautious of who you look to as a role model in your life. Look for those that “prove that they are God’ children” by the good they do. If you are a leader, make sure you are living a life each day that is worthy to be followed.
