But now I am determined to bless Jerusalem and the people of Judah. So don’t be afraid. (Zechariah 8:15)

Merry Christmas. What a joyful day the Lord has given to us as we celebrate the gift that is His Son, Jesus. On this day we rise to celebrate the birth of God’s only Son into this world.

Many times the message of Christmas seems to be about giving gifts and everything being perfect. However, when you read the story from Luke, you see that the message of the Angel was “Don’t Be Afraid.” The day in which Jesus was born was a troubled time. Political unrest, foreign occupation, religious tensions, and other fears filled the lives of the people. It was into this chaotic time that God chose to allow his Son to step into history.

His message today is still, “Don’t be afraid.” He knows the challenges every family faces each day. He came into this world to walk with us, to know us and for us to know him. He tore down the separation between God and man, so that we would not fear to come to him. He calls us to come. Come, and don’t be afraid. Come, and worship. Come.

Today, after the energy and excitement has faded. Today, as your mind starts to drift to New Year’s changes. Don’t allow fear to dominate your thoughts but rest in the hope of Christmas. The Hope that was born that day, still lives. Come, Don’t Be Afraid. Worship Him today!
