Cowards Don’t Get The Crown
Posted: Wednesday, December 10
Verse of the day:
Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life. (Revelation 2:10)
The church at Smyrna is one of only two churches in the book of Revelation which Jesus does not have anything negative to say. This church was facing persecution, imprisonment, and even the threat of death. Thus, God’s message to them was not to repent. It was be faithful, even to the point of death. In other words, God told them, “this is going to get worse before it gets better so be faithful to me even when if it hurts.” He encouraged them not to be afraid because the suffering will be for a limited amount of time. They were encouraged to be faithful by the promise of the crown of life (v. 10).
Even when you are doing everything right, you may have to experience hard times. You may be experiencing them right now. You may feel like nothing is improving even though you are doing all the right things. Today, God is telling you the same words He told the church at Smyrna. Don’t be afraid because you are experiencing hard times. They won’t last forever! God is still in control and, if you remain faithful until the end, eternal life in the presence of the Lord will be your reward.
Don’t give up! Don’t retreat! Don’t surrender!
Stay faithful! There is a crown of life waiting for you!
