One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Deuteronomy 4:1-49
Luke 6:39-7:10
Psalm 68:1-18
Proverbs 11:28

Verse of the day:

The lord your God is a devouring fire; he is a jealous God. (Deuteronomy 4:24)

Jealousy, for the most part, is not a good trait in an individual.  It creates tension, disunity, and down-right conflict. However, the reason why it is not a good trait in individuals is, because we are all flawed and the base of our jealousy is usually sinful.

The difference with God is that the base for His jealousy is burning love for His people.  He wants all of who you are to love all of who He is.  He is not interested in you sharing that love with other idols in your life because He knows that no one, or thing, can protect you, guide you, and love you like He can.

The people of Israel learned this the hard way.  They got hurt by their adulterous decision to place their devotions in idols.  These wrongful decisions ended up hurting them, and creating a chasm of separation between them and an almighty God.

Today, place your complete devotion on the one whose love burns eternally for you.  Just like the song, “How He Loves”, by John Mark McMillan, and performed by the David Crowder band:

He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree. Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy.

Let His jealous love, drive your zealous devotion towards Him alone.
