One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Joshua 13:1-14:15
Luke 18:1-17
Psalm 85:1-13
Proverbs 13:7-8

Verse of the day:

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. (Luke 18:1)

Jesus tells a story about a widow and a judge, and these two characters are very different. You have a woman and a man. The man is in power; he is powerful. The woman is powerless. The man is prosperous; the woman is penniless. In that day, he would have been in a position of great authority while she was in a very humble position. The woman is seeking justice and the only leverage she has is persistence. Jesus says that this widow in fact has great persistence and despite the character flaws of this judge, he will give her justice because she would not give up.

Are you like this widow? Do you have a Godly persistence? It’s a vital trait for us to develop in our character. If you’re going to have a good marriage and a strong family you will need to learn some persistence. If you’re going to serve in ministry or build a business you will need to have some persistence to keep moving forward. And if we are going to have a prayer life that invites God to do the impossible we will need to have persistence. There are some things that are always worth praying for and we should never give up. Our marriages and our kids are worth fighting for. The church, our community and nation are worth fighting for. People far from God are worth fighting for.

We ought to always pray and not give up because God hears our prayers and He is at work.
