One Year Bible Reading Guide:
Verse of the day:
Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my son, whom I love; perhaps they will respect him. (Luke 20:13)
Jesus’ Parable of the Tenants is found in Luke 20:9-20. In this parable Jesus speaks against the teachers of the law and the chief priests and they realized this (v. 19). They were the evil tenant farmers in the story. This story reminds me of what Jesus said earlier in Luke 13:34 where he says, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you.” The tenants treated harshly those sent to them. Then the story turns prophetic when the land owner says, “I will send my son whom I love” (V. 13). Verses 14 and 15 tell us the tenants killed the son. Not long after Jesus told this story, it was fulfilled when the teachers of the law and the chief priests had Jesus , God’s Son, crucified.
With this being Easter Sunday I thought it appropriate that the little phrase, “I will send my son whom I love”, was part of today’s reading. Think about it, God the Father sent His Son whom He loves to die on the cross and rise again so we could be forgiven of our sins. You know what that means don’t you? It means God loves us a whole lot too, more than we can imagine. Happy Easter everyone!
