One Year Bible Reading Guide:

1 Samuel 14:1-52
John 7:31-53
Psalm 109:1-31
Proverbs 15:5-7

Verse of the day:

“Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!  Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.' (John 7:37-38)

June 26, 1990 holds a specific memory for me. I was seven-years-old living in Phoenix, Arizona. ThatTuesday afternoon still holds the record for the hottest day in Phoenix’ history—coming in at a scorching 122 degrees. The newscast showed footage of an egg frying on the sidewalk. When you live in the dessert, everyone understands the value of water access. It’s not something you easily forget. When you drive across town, you bring water with you in case you break down. No water equals no life.

In John chapter 7, Jesus promises “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, “Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” Jesus is talking here about the Spirit of God. He promises that the Spirit will be our daily and even hourly access to life-giving water. We will never be cut-off. We will never be without access to the heavenly Father because of the gift of the Holy Spirit. I would never go one day in Phoenix without water. How much more should we seek after the living water that comes to us through the Spirit of God?
