One Year Bible Reading Guide:

1 Samuel 26:1-28:25
John 11:1-54
Psalm 117:1-2
Proverbs 15:22-23

Verse of the day:

The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness.  The Lord delivered you into my hand today, but I would not lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed.  (1 Samuel 26:23)

In 1 Samuel chapter 26 we read an amazing story of David.  David is being pursued by King Saul to kill him.  David finds where King Saul and his army have camped for the night.  He and Abishai sneak down into the middle of the camp of 3000 soldiers where King Saul and his captain/body guard ,  Abner, were. Wow!  That’s right up there with a boy going head to head with a 9 foot giant with just a sling and some stones.

It was two against three thousand.  Just as God helped David against Goliath, God helped him against King Saul that day and put the whole army into a deep sleep.  Right there in the middle of the camp standing above King Saul, David and Abishai have a conversation.  Abishai wants to kill King Saul but David chooses to do right and says “I will not lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed.”  Instead they take the King’s spear and water jug and left.  David calls out from a distance and taunts Abner, then he speaks to the King.  It is then that David says the words recorded in I Samuel 26:23, “The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness.”  Like David, choose to do right in God’s eyes and be faithful to Him and reap God’s favor and reward.  Follow his ways and see what great things God will do for you and through you.
