One Year Bible Reading Guide:

1 Kings 15:25-17:24
Acts 10:24-48
Psalm 134:1-3
Proverbs 17:9-11

Verse of the day:

Lift up holy hands in prayer, and praise the Lord. (Psalm 134:2)

Did you know that when you lift your hands in worship even the chemicals in your body rejoice? It’s true. The Bible teaches us to sing, shout, clap, dance, and lift our hands in praise to God. Praise is not an emotion. It is an action!

Think about a father who never tells his son that he loves him, never spends time with him, and never hugs him. Is it enough for that father to simply ‘think’ love to his son? Absolutely not! He must come to life with his words, his actions, and his time. In the same way, we must lift our voices and hands in praise to God. You can not ‘think’ praise.

In 2010, Dr. Amy Cuddy held an experiment on body language at Harvard University. The first test group spent two minutes in a defeated posture (legs crossed, arms folded, head down). When they did, two of the chemicals in their body reacted: their power hormone (testosterone) lowered, and their anxiety hormone (cortisol) raised. The second group of individuals spent two minutes in a victory posture (standing up, head forward, arms raised). Now, the opposite occurred—the power hormone raised, and the anxiety decreased!

When we lift our hands in praise to God, even our physical bodies respond! Anxiety leaves, and we embrace the victory that can only come from faith in Jesus Christ. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
