1 Kings 19:1-21
Verse of the day:
Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him [Elijah] and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.” (1 Kings 19:7)
Elijah lived an incredible life full of powerful God moments. But Elijah was just a man, subject to the human experience. He suffered discouragement and depression and in this section of scriptures he asks God to take his life. Jezebel has turned the prophet into a fugitive on the run and Elijah can’t see clearly because of the despair he finds himself in.
It’s at this moment that God sends an angel to intervene and gives mercy to His weary son. God didn’t give him a sermon or a kick in the pants. Rather God catered a meal of freshly baked bread and cool, refreshing water and told Elijah to get some rest. I think we can glean something here.
Most of us will go through seasons of discouragement and exhaustion and the remedy could include simple things such as eating better, getting some rest and allowing God to minister to us. As with Elijah God will give us the strength for the journey ahead.
