1 Kings 9:1-10:29
Verse of the day:
Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but the Lord tests the heart. (Proverbs 17:3)
It takes intense heat to melt silver and gold. Refiners will use heat to melt down the medals so that they can be purified and molded. As the heat is applied, impurities rise to the top and are skimmed off and removed.
In the same way, God uses the heat of confrontation, the friction of circumstances, and the trials of life to apply heat to our lives. In his efforts to mold and shape our lives, he needs us to be soft and pliable. When the heat is applied to our lives, it makes us open to the working of His Spirit.
Do you ever find that in tense and stressful situations, the worst in you seems to rise to the surface? Quick tempers let rise to negative words and hurtful actions. Those things that arise when the heat is on are the things in our lives that we need to address and attempt to remove. If we are successful, then the next time stress is applied we will be found pure. If we are not successful, then those things will get stirred up again and we will have a second time around to deal with negative in our lives.
God tests our heart. Instead of complaining to God about your tests and trials, take the time to see the things that it brings up in your life that you need to work on. Deal with them, because if you don’t, they will come up again the next time God tests your heart.
