One Year Bible Reading Guide:

2 Chronicles 4:1-6:11
Romans 7:1-13
Psalm 17:1-15
Proverbs 19:22-23

Verse of the day:

But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my death? Of course not! Sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation to death. So we can see how terrible sin really is. It uses God’s good commands for its own evil purposes. (Romans 7:13)

Have you ever been more enticed to do something because someone told you NOT to do it? I think it’s funny when people say, ‘Don’t look over there,’ but instinctively we do! Or if someone says, ‘You can’t have that piece of pie until after dinner,’ how much more I want it NOW!

Sin does the same thing to us. In order to protect our souls and lives here on Earth, God gave his commands in order to keep us safe. But sin, as terrible as it is, took that opportunity to make the commands even more tempting to break! The commands from God are meant for our good and to keep us from harming ourselves. Sin uses those commands as an opportunity to say, ‘Hey, you’re not supposed to (insert sin: lie, cheat, steal, etc). Wouldn’t it be fun to just do it once?’

Sin is a conniving, sneaky little pest who’s only repercussion is death and destruction. Sin does not have your best interest in mind. Sin is selfish, greedy, and ugly. Don’t let sin take over your life. Fight the urge to do what is so common and may seem more fulfilling in the moment. As Pastor Brooks shared yesterday, fight to live by the Golden Rule and do good! There’s a battle for your soul. Are you going to willingly give it up, or will you fight to honor God and obey his commands?
