2 Chronicles 6:12-8:10
Verse of the day:
Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? (Romans 7:24)
Many of us, no matter how long we have been in a relationship with Jesus, struggle to live a righteous life. As Paul writes in this chapter, the good that I want to do, I don’t do. The bad that I don’t want to do, I end up doing.
Paul recognizes the struggle that all sin is based in selfishness. You cannot spell the word sIn without I being right in the middle. If we examined our sin struggle, most of us would find that what we have is an “I” problem. That is why Jesus commands us to die to self.
I love the proclamation that Paul declares in Romans 7:25 “Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.” It is only through focusing our lives on Jesus that we will get our eyes off of our selfish needs. When we seek His righteousness, we abandon our right to self. When we put Jesus in the center of our lives, we will find that we begin to break the cycle of sin.
Pray today that your thoughts and actions will revolve around what Jesus calls right instead of the needs of your own self.
