2 Chronicles 33:14-34:33
Verse of the day:
Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight and followed the example of his ancestor David. He did not turn away from doing what was right. (2 Chronicles 33:1-2)
I spent the past week in Columbus, Ohio with some of the most talented teenagers in the state of Wisconsin. Oak Creek Assembly was proudly represented by young singers, actors, dancers, and instrumentalists from this church. I always pause when someone tells a young person, “One day, you’re going to do great things.” Although the tone is obviously well-meaning, I have to ask the question: aren’t they doing great things now?
Culture prescribes a natural progression of accomplishment, and many times I think we see age before we see ability. Who knew that the best leader for Judah would be an 8-year-old? Many of us will encounter talented younger people in our work places, schools, and here at church. Let’s make a choice: will I simply compliment their future or will I empower their present? Let’s go find a Josiah!
