God's Word Is Wide // Saturday, August 2

Posted: Saturday, August 2

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

2 Chronicles 32:1-33:13
Romans 15:23-16:9
Psalm 25:16-22
Proverbs 20:16-18

Verse of the day:

The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. (Psalm 19:8-9)

If we look at the psalmist’s experiences with God’s Word, and all of its blessing, we see his understanding of the breadth of God’s Word as being, “so wide”. You can tell that knowledge came through his life experience, and actual struggles in living out God’s Word. In the same way, in order for us to live as he did, (the psalmist), we need to take the warnings from scripture and allow them to be the blessing they are intended to be. Often God’s Word convicts us of sin and complacency. Instead of being defensive, or giving excuses, we should heed the warnings given through His laws. If not, then we could miss out on His blessings and that great reward in the end.

Emotionally it feels easier, at the moment, to deflect and perhaps save ourselves by not looking at our sin, or denying it. But the more we do that, the more we dull our sensitivity to His voice. We need to have the perspective that God’s laws are precious and given to us so that we can see ourselves clearly through the lens of reality and His grace. It will bring life to us. God’s vision for our lives is probably far greater than we expected. No matter how painful things get at times, we need to allow God’s Word to dig deep into our hearts. We need to yield ourselves and place our total trust in His Word; knowing that through it, God will revive our souls and bring us life.
