Laziness Kills // Friday, August 1

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

2 Chronicles 30:1-31:21
Romans 15:1-22
Psalm 25:1-15
Proverbs 20:13-15

Verse of the day:

If you love sleep, you will end in poverty. Keep your eyes open, and there will be plenty to eat! Proverbs 20:13 (NLT)

I love sleep. I would hit the snooze button all day long if I could. I like kickstarting Mondays, my day off where having as much fun as humanly possible is my sole responsibility, with a snoozefest until 11AM. In fact, I could take a nap right now.

What Solomon was getting to when writing this Proverb was much broader than sleeping in. What he’s describing is a lazy attitude and behavior. We were created to work. God developed the Sabbath as our 1 day of rest, the other 6 were meant for work. In this age of entitlement, it’s easy to feel like we deserve what we want when we want it. But the Bible makes it very clear that our work is meant to be an extension of our worship and responsibilities. God doesn’t like slackers. He doesn’t appreciate us wasting the gift of life and energy that he’s given us by sitting around eating bon bons all day. He doesn’t appreciate that type of attitude either. How we spend our moments during responsibilities and free time says so much about us.

My mother-in-law Sherry has really inspired me in this whole area. She wakes up early every morning to walk and pray. She never likes feeling like she’s been cheated out of a day and works hard to make the most of every moment. Are you making the most of your days? Is it time to reevaluate your passions, dreams, and ambitions? God is a big God with huge plans for you. Take the challenge and do something big with God today!
