Control Freakazoid // Wednesday, August 6

Posted: Wednesday, August 6

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Ezra 3:1-4:23
1 Corinthians 2:6-3:4
Psalm 28:1-9
Proverbs 20:24-25

Verse of the day:

The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way? (Proverbs 20:24)

I’m the type of guy that likes to have a plan. Days ahead I like to think through my week on how its going to look. Usually by Tuesday I start to get stressed because I see how much is ahead for the week, but then it all pans out. I like the control that comes with having my plans laid out, knowing how I’ll get from point A to point B. It makes me feel secure and prepared for what I know is coming and for those unexpected circumstances that arise. Maybe you’re just like me and are thinking, “I get it Joshua! I do that same thing!” Or maybe you’re polar opposite and are getting drained from just reading this!

Today’s verse is arduous for me. I’m wired to want to lead and make decisions. I want to know the hows and whys and figure out how I can make the situation work for how I need it to. But Solomon tries to comfort people like me by saying, “Hey, you’re actually NOT in control of stuff. So why stress out about it?” Verses like this remind me that there are things that I can control, and there are things that are way beyond me. God knows the journey ahead and he’s got His plan laid out! A plan that’s good & will bring the best out in me for His glory! I’ve been one who can get stressed out trying to figure out God’s plan. But if Solomon were to look me in the eyes today he would say, “Dude, relax! God’s got it figured out! He’ll let you know what to do when He’s ready!”

Maybe you’re like me and you’re dying to know what the next step is! Maybe there’s something going on in your life that you want to control but can’t seem to make it go your way. I would encourage you to start flexing that faith muscle. Trust God and His timing. Ask Him what he wants, read His word, and go from there! And if you know you’re doing things your way and haven’t talked with God about His plans for you, today’s the day to ask Him and then put it in B for boogie! God knows the plan and will guide us step by step. It’s time to let go of control and starting trusting him!
