One Year Bible Reading Guide:
1 Chronicles 12:19-14:17
Verse of the Day:
Wealth attracts many friends, but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them. (Proverbs 19:4 )
It’s easy to be friends with people based on what they can do for us. It’s natural to be attracted to beautiful people with status. It’s fun to hang out with rich people who have lots of toys. I’d like to become better friends with our neighbors, they’ve got a pool and we don’t.
The true test of friendship comes when the other person has little to offer in terms of fringe benefits. A relationship where there will be more give than take. This could be a friendship with a person going through a serious health battle, a commitment to an aging parent or sticking with a buddy who just can’t get it together. These are beautiful relationships in the eyes of our heavenly father because they reflect His utter selflessness and unconditional love.
I’m so thankful that Christ didn’t overlook me and that His love for me is perfect and permanent. I want to do a better job reflecting that love to others.
