Those Little Foxes // Saturday, September 6

Song of Solomon 1:1-4:16
2 Corinthians 8:16-24
Verse of the day:
Catch all the foxes, those little foxes, before they ruin the vineyard of love, for the grapevines are blossoming!
(Song of Solomon 2:15)
Most of us have built walls in our lives to help to protect against the big sins. We have worked to make sure that we have insulated ourselves against the “major” sins. However, today’s verse reminds us that we have to be diligent, not only against the big things, but the little compromises in our lives. It is the little foxes that crawl through the holes in the fence that steal the fruit and ruin the vine.
How are you doing against the little things? David’s adultery started with a little glance. Abel’s murder started as a jealous thought in the mind of Cain. The enemy of our soul does not always bombard our lives with big temptations. He subtly claws away at our defense with a small, seemingly harmless thing. Yet, over time, those little sins make holes in our defenses and become our undoing.
Today, take the time to examine your life. What little foxes of compromise have crept in? Where are the holes, stress fractures or places of weakness beginning to show? Is bitterness beginning to steal the fruit of joy? Is anger beginning to rob you of your peace? Is lust trying to pervert your fruit of love? Today, let’s heed the scriptures command and “catch all the foxes” and live to enjoy the fruit of our success.
