It Was You God Who (?) // Thursday, October 2

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Isaiah 66:1-24
Philippians 3:4-21
Psalm 74:1-23
Proverbs 24:15-16

Verse of the day:

But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth. (Psalms 74:12)

Psalm 74:12-17 But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth.  It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.  It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.  It was you who opened up springs and streams; you dried up the ever-flowing rivers. The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon.  It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.

In Psalm 74, verses 12 through 17, the psalmist points out many things God has done, giving credit where credit is due, if you will.  We see this in the little phrase, “It was you who…”   I count 4 times this phrase is used, but the use of “and” and semi-colons brings the count higher of things God is given credit for in theses verses.

How about you?  What would you put after the phrase “It was you (God) who…”?  What good things will you give glory to God for today?  Take your cue from Psalm 74: 12 and go on from there.   It was you who brought salvation to me.  It was you who …..  It was you who ….  It was you who ….  See if you can at least do as many as the psalmist did.  I would have put mine down but I didn’t want to help you too much.  The old hymn, “To God Be The Glory”, sums it well.  “To God be the glory, great things he has done.”
