The Good News // Sunday, September 14

Posted: Sunday, September 14

One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Isaiah 15:1-18:7
Galatians 1:1-24
Psalms 58:1-11
Proverbs 23:12

Verse of the day:

Galatians 1:4 “Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.” NLT

If you spend any time watching the news or reading the headlines of the day, good news is hard to come by. Most stories are filled with tragedy, violence, recalls, death and negative politics. Rarely do we ever get to hear about acts of kindness, goodness, and self-control. We always get to see our world at its worst.

From God’s perspective, he saw the world at its worst and decided to do something. He sent His son, Jesus, to live and die for all mankind. Finally, good news. This is not just any good news; this is the best news that we could ever receive. Our sin and the evil of our world has us bound and trapped. The only way out is to pay the debt of our actions, which is death. Jesus paid our debt, through his death. Now, we can escape the grip of sin, evil and death. That is not just good news that is great news.

Yet, if that news is so great, why are we not dancing in the streets, shouting for joy and sharing it with everyone we meet. Have you lost the joy of the good news? Have you lost sight of the incredible gift and sacrifice that Jesus was and is? Today, take a few minutes to refocus yourself on the simple story of the good news. Jesus gave his life, which was God’s plan, so that you could be saved from sin, evil and death. Now, after you have reflected a few minutes, determine to find someone to tell this good news today. News loses is power when it is not shared. Share the good news of your story with someone today. It may be the only good news they hear.
