Proverbs 4:7-10

Verse of the day:

And so he did only a few miracles there because of their unbelief. (Matthew 13:58)

As we have been reading in Matthew, Jesus public ministry has been growing. He has been traveling from place to place, teaching to hundreds and doing miracles. He has healed the sick, released the demon possessed, and raised a girl from the dead. He has taught the great Sermon on the Mount, parables and stories. His fame was growing in the region. I am sure that those that lived in his home town of Nazareth were hearing the rumors about this local boy that was a rising star among the traveling rabbis.

So you would think that Jesus return home would have been filled with fanfare, followed by healings and miraculous signs. I am sure that Jesus wanted to do these things for the little town that he had grown up in. I am sure there were people that were suffering just like in the other towns that he had visited. Yet, as he leaves town a few days later, only a few miracles have happened.

Our faith is tied to Jesus ability to work in our lives. He is all powerful, but he does not just move in our lives while we sit passively by. If you don’t want to be healed, don’t ask. If you don’t expect that Jesus can do anything for you, don’t pray. This homecoming shows us that those that thought they knew Jesus the best did not really know him at all. They knew him as the human son of Mary and Joseph. They had missed the divine. His power was limited in their lives because of their limited view of Him.

As you go through your day today, don’t limit Jesus to what he has done yesterday. He is doing a new thing today. Get ready for the miracle you have been believing for is right around the way.
