Loving Jesus More Than Anything Else

Verse of the day:
If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it. (Matthew 10:37-39)
Your family played a significant role in your development, self-esteem, values, and worldview. Jesus knows how powerful the family bond can be. He understands what a vital role a loving family plays in the well-being of a person and society as a whole. Yet, while speaking about what it would take to be his disciple, Jesus calls you to love him more than your family.
You must love Jesus not only more than your family but more than your own life. Jesus explains that his disciples should be willing to pick up their cross and follow him. "Taking up the cross" in Jesus' day meant being forced to carry the instrument of your death past a mob to the site of your execution as a condemned criminal. Jesus is calling you to follow him regardless of the circumstances of life. A disciple of Jesus is the one that chooses him above all else because Jesus matters more than anything.
Do you want to be a disciple of Jesus? Then, love him more than anybody or anything and you will be able to experience true life. Jesus said: “If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.”
