Verse of the day

Prepare the way for the Lord's coming! Clear the road for him! (Mark 1:3 NIV)

All of us who call Oak Creek Assembly our home have the great privilege of driving on 13 St each week! I jest. Truth is, 13 St is infamous for its potholes and uneven pavement. Imagine that the president was going to be visiting our city and traveling down this street. What preparations might be made to smooth things out for their motorcade? Far more importantly, what preparations would be made if the king of the universe was to visit?

John the Baptist was given the incomparable task of preparing this world for the coming of Jesus Christ. John was worried about the condition of people's hearts. He was worried if people would be receptive to the ministry and the message of the soon-coming King. He was quite worried about it because the world to him did not seem adequately prepared. And again, John isn't interested in the condition of the road, he's focused on our hearts.

Today we also must be about the work of preparing the way for the Lord, because He is returning! It's time to take out the trash, repent of our sin, and take our eyes off of the temporary and share the good news with our friends. Jesus is coming soon; let's get ready.
