One Year Bible Reading  Guide:

Leviticus 1:1-3:17
Mark 1:29-2:12
Psalm 35:17-28
Proverbs 9:13-18

Verse of the day:

Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? (Mark 2:9)

Jesus certainly mastered the art of asking great questions. So let's consider what he's asking; what is the greater miracle; physical healing or the forgiveness of sins? On the surface healing seems more impressive, especially if you were paralyzed and had to be carried around by your friends. Jesus had all the power to enable this man to walk, and he does heal him. But consider this: his healing and all physical healing in this life are temporary. This man still faced death. We still face death.

It's with all the compassion in the world then that Jesus says to this man 'your sins are forgiven'! Only Jesus can offer the permanent cure for our ailing condition.

I believe Jesus would say much the same thing to us today. If you are seeking physical healing, a financial breakthrough or reconciliation of a relationship Jesus is more than powerful to provide those miracles. But even greater than that Jesus alone provides the answer for the universal human problem of sin. One day when we're enjoying the presence of God in heaven we'll understand just how big of a miracle forgiveness is.
