God's Good On His Word

Verse of the day:
Today I am eighty-five years old. I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then. (Joshua 14:10-11)
Not too long ago while preaching, I asked those present, “What do you do when things don’t go your way?” Someone from the crowd very candidly answered: “I usually end up doing something stupid!” What should you do then? In Caleb’s life you will find the correct way to react when things don’t go your way.
God promised Caleb that he and his family would receive their own property within the Promised Land. Yet this promise was not fulfilled right away and he ended up wandering 40 years in the wilderness with the Israelites. To make things worse, once they finally arrived at the Promised Land, he spent five years helping others to conquer their own lands. So for 45 years, things didn’t go Caleb’s way. Still, he never gave up. He knew that God’s promise was going to be fulfilled – even if he had to fight for it. This is why he reminded Joshua of God’s promise to him and asked for permission to go conquer a hill country full of giants. Please notice that he didn’t request backup or ask for a handout since he was old and had earned it. No! The 85 year old Caleb wanted to fight for what belonged to him.
Even if you do everything right, things may not go your way. What should you do then? You may have to wait for the right time or you may have to fight for that which God has already given you. Whether you are in a season of waiting or a season of fighting, God will fulfill his promises to you. Don’t give up!
