One Year Bible Reading Guide

Joshua 22:21-23:16
Luke 20:27-47
Psalm 89:14-37
Proverbs 13:17-19

Verse of the day:

“It is pleasant to see dreams come true, but fools refuse to turn from evil to attain them.” (Proverbs 13:19 NLT)

This same phrase in the New American Standard Bible reads, “Desire realized is sweet to the soul.” The Message reads, “Souls who follow their hearts thrive.” Everyone loves attending a wedding, a graduation, or a retirement party. The feeling of accomplishment sets the tone of the day. The work is complete. The reward has come.

There’s a different tone when a C+ high school student declares they want to become a lawyer. Are they actually going to make it? We don’t bring gifts and eat cake; we taper our reaction. We wait and see. The reward is still so very far away. The journey has barely begun.

With earthly wisdom, we cannot predict who will achieve their dreams and who will not. Skin-deep assumptions can be misleading, but God sees the heart. He doesn’t evaluate potential on social advantage, status, or upbringing. God sees the heart, and He recognizes one determining factor between those who achieve Christ-centered dreams and those who do not. What keeps you from your goals? “Fools refuse to turn from evil to attain them.”

So ask yourself . . . have you turned from evil? Is selfishness, greed, immorality, laziness, or anger keeping you from God’s perfect plan? Turn away from the temporary trappings of today. Take a deep breath and dream a God-sized dream. “Souls who follow their hearts thrive.”
