Verse of the day:

Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. (Psalm 119:1-2)

One of my best friends lives in Naperville, Illinois. A cornerstone of our friendship has become the ability to let everyday conversations drift into the mirky waters of philosophy and introspection. One of our notable conversations began with this question…

If you were cast in a movie, how would you be typecast?

Professional actors could answer this question in a blink; it’s a subject that remains at the forefront of their minds. If you’re not familiar with the idea, typecasting is when our visual impressions and past experiences stereotype an actor into a very similar role. It’s the reason that Morgan Freeman is always cast as the voice of wisdom; something about his genteel voice and his brilliant white hair implores us to trust the man.

So . . . what’s your typecast?

Are you the moody teenager? The eccentric millionaire? The disheveled waitress? If people could name one characteristic that defines your life, what would it be? I don’t know if I can honestly self evaluate, but I can tell you what I want the answer to be.

Joy.

Think of the most joyful person you know. A joyful person can be imagined in no other way. Joy and contentment frame their very existence. Think about it today, and let joy be your typecast.
