A Life Worthy
Posted: Friday, September 25
Verse of the day:
Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. (Ephesians 4:1)
We all wear different hats in life. Put differently, we all have multiple callings in life. I am a husband, a father, a son, an uncle, a pastor, an employee, and a neighbor, just to name a few. Each of these different hats vie for our attention and time, and each are truly important. Yet there is one calling I have that is higher than all of the rest, and the interesting thing is, you also have the same calling: to be a follower of Christ!
Paul’s appeal to us is passionate and urgent: ‘I beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling’! I can almost picture Paul on the verge of tears because this is so important. Don’t settle for a life that abdicates the greatest invitation one could ever receive! We don’t live the same after we’ve been called. God’s priorities become our priorities and knowing Him becomes the drive of our life.
The interesting thing is, when I place priority on my calling to follow Christ, I live out my other callings better. When my focus is on following Christ and living in ways that please Him, I become a better husband to Joanie, a better father to Krista and Morgan, and certainly a better pastor.
