One Year Bible Reading Guide:

2 Chronicles 6:12-8:10
Romans 7:14-8:8
Psalm 18:1-15
Proverbs 19:24-25

Verse of the Day:

Those who are dominated by the Sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. (2 Chronicles 8:5 NLT)

It's an eight hour drive from Oak Creek, Wisconsin to Byesville, Ohio.

Your'e probably not familiar with Byesville. It's a small village on the south side of Cambridge. Where's Cambridge? Well... apparently, your'e a novice when it comes to the critical geography of eastern Ohio.

On Second thought, 'who' is far more important than 'where'.

Last week, I drove to Ohio to attend my paternal grandfather's funeral. He passed away at 80 after a two-year battle with cancer. I get my dashing good looks from my grandfather, although I didn't quite garner his humility. I did inherit a sacred appreciation for road trips, hard work, and deep thought. Grandpa believed that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit changed everything about who we are and how we operate as believers.

When Grandpa conversed with his patients, it was really about sharing the love of Christ. When Grandpa played with his grandchildren, it was really about fostering a legacy of faith. When Grandpa learned Spanish at the age 50, it was about reading the Bible in a second language. When Grandpa pointed our constellations in the sky, it was about expressing the wonder of God. When Grandpa had a deaf patient leave his office hearing, it was about the miraculous power of Jesus Christ.

Paul teaches us that "those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit." I long for the Holy Spirit to be the master of my thought life. I long for His intentions to trump my own. Our earthly desires must be traded for the prize of a life well led, and the Holy Spirit will lead the way.
