One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Jeremiah 4:19-6:15
Colossians 1:18-2:7
Psalm 77:1-20
Proverbs 24:23-25

Verse of the day:

I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.(Colossians 2:4)

You’ve seen them.  Maybe there are even a few in your dresser drawers.  Socks with little nubs affixed to the bottom that grip to hardwood or tile floors.  We wear these socks to prevent slipping on smooth surfaces.

As followers of Christ, opposition can come against us that can cause us to spiritually slip.  It could be a social media post, conversation with a family member or college lecture.  Someone with a different set of beliefs pokes at Christianity or poses questions we struggle to answer.  Arguments can be so persuasive that some have abandoned their faith altogether.

It is important to improve our “grip” by continuing to develop our understanding of the hope we have in Christ.  We increase our spiritual knowledge by doing things like reading the Bible, prayer, attending church worship services and participating in small groups.

Paul addressed this in his letter to the Colossians.  He wants believers to "have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:2-3 NIV).

Paul points out that this is important to prevent slips.

"I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments” (v. 4).

I am thankful that the more I pursue Christ, the more I am assured of His promises.   I am thankful for the evidence that He is who He says He is.  Jesus is the solid Rock on which I stand.

What anti-slip, grips do you have in place in your life?
