Deuteronomy 31:1-32:27
Luke 12:8-34
Psalm 78:32-55
Proverbs 12:21-23

Verse of the day:

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

If you watch the nightly news at all you know there are lots of reasons to be afraid and discouraged.  Terrorist attacks, presidential election, persecution on the rise, unstable economy—there’s a lot going on and there are a lot of people who are on edge and feeling fearful.  All of us have some area where we are tempted to be overcome with fear and discouragement.  If I’m honest this has been a struggle since my daughter was born. I have found lots of reasons to be fearful and anxious about the world around me as it relates to her and her future!

Over and over again though God tells us through His Word “Do not be afraid or discouraged…” We hear that and often our minds go “but…has He seen the nightly news? Has he seen what my bank account says? Is He aware of what’s going on down here? How can I not be afraid?”

We don’t have to be afraid or discouraged because He does know and he also promises that He will be with us and will never fail us or abandon us. Once we know that promise we have a choice of whether or not we are going to continue to allow ourselves to be fearful and discouraged.  We can choose to release our fear and our situation into His capable hands.  Sometimes we have to take action steps to help us not pick up that fear again. Maybe you can’t watch the news, or can’t allow yourself to get into conversations about certain fear inducing topics, maybe you need to memorize verses to use when you find yourself getting fearful. You have a choice! You don’t have to be afraid! God is with you!
