One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Ezra 10:1-44
1 Corinthians 6:1-20
Psalm 31:9-18
Proverbs 21:3

Verse of the day:

The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)

I truly enjoy listening to people worship and serve God in different languages! It is so powerful to see people who were raised in a different place than me, look and dress different than me, worship the same God I worship. I believe God enjoys variety! Just take a minute to notice the many colors of plants, the changing of the seasons, the different kinds of animals, and the uniqueness of each person.

You see, God does not want us to be carbon copies of other people. On the contrary, He has given us different ethnic backgrounds and nationalities. He has endowed us with different gifts and abilities for the benefit of the Body of Christ.

At the same time, God wants us to live united even in the midst of our diversity. He wants us to be one family in Him. He desires for us to accomplish His will through our collective effort (as a church). This is why the Spirit places people of all ethnic and social groups together (in the same local church). We have a common origin (God) and a common purpose (to do God’s will), but we are not identical: “the many parts make up one whole body.” Thus, our overriding interest should be exalting the name of Christ in unity and love.

Lord Jesus, help us to join forces with others for the benefit of your Church, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
