Verse of the day:

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news,  the good news of peace and salvation,  the news that the God of Israel reigns! (Isaiah 52:7)

The watchmen see in the distance on the mountains the messenger bringing the expected and much hoped for news of the deliverance from captivity. They immediately spread the joyful tidings and with a loud voice proclaim that Jehovah is returning to Zion, to resume his residence on his holy mountain.

"How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the joyful messenger," is a poetical expression for how welcome is the messenger’s arrival—how agreeable are the tidings which he brings!

There appears to have been two sorts of messengers among the Jews: one sort was always employed to bring evil tidings; the other to bring good. The names and persons of these different messengers appear to have been well known; so that at a distance they could tell, from seeing the messenger, what sort of tidings he was bringing.

The preachers of the Gospel are particularly intended to be messengers of good news—messengers of peace. When the battle has been fought and won, the messenger comes to announce the victory—a victory so decisive that peace and salvation was the consequence and outcome. Then the King's throne is established in the land.

So in those difficult times, pray and wait on God and His messenger to bring the news of captives being led out of captivity. Then your voice too will join so many who have experienced the salvation of our Lord as he reigns in your heart.
