One Year Bible Reading Guide:

2 Chronicles 29:1-36
Romans 14:1-23
Psalm 24:1-10
Proverbs 20:12

Verse of the day:

Who is he, this King of glory?  The Lord Almighty—he is the King of glory.  Selah (Psalm 24:10)

The first and last parts of Psalm 24 describe God.  The first part says God is ruler of the universe because He created it all. (Vv.1-2)   The last part says that He is the “King of Glory”, “the Lord strong and mighty”, “the Lord mighty in battle” and “the Lord almighty”. (Vv. 7-10) Sandwiched between these pictures of God is the answer to the question - who then may worship in His presence?  Think about it.  It is the God of the universe, the Creator of all things, the Lord almighty, we are talking about when we ask – Who can climb His mountain and who can stand in His holy place?  The answer is found in verses 3 through 6.

Psalm 24:3-6 New International Version (NIV)Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?  Who may stand in his holy place?  The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.  They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior.  Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.”  Verse 6 in the New Living Version (NLV) says “Such people may seek you and worship in your presence….”

The first thing we need is to be cleansed through Jesus Christ.   “The one who has clean hands and a pure heart….” Without Jesus no one can go to God in worship because we need to have clean hands and a pure heart that can only be cleansed through His blood.  We need to be made holy.  Also we must be faithful to our God; not putting idols or anything or anyone else in His place.  “The one…who does not trust in an idol.…”  We need to be faithful.  Finally we must be true in our worship, only worshipping Him.  “The one…who does not… swear by a false god.”  We must be true.  Humbly go up the mountain of the Lord and worship Him in holiness, faithfulness and truth today. Go ahead and humbly seek His face the way HE desires.

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24)
