Deuteronomy 13:1-15:23
Luke 8:40-9:6
Psalm 71:1-24
Proverbs 12:5-7

Verse of the day:

The Lord your God will be merciful only if you listen to his voice and keep all his commands that I am giving you today, doing what pleases him. (Deuteronomy 13:1)

God loves the opportunity to shower His blessings down on His children. We, like Him, do the same for our children. We want to give grace and mercy when at all possible. We want to spend as much time as we can with them. We want to share our heritage and the benefits that come with that heritage. We want to listen and advise—give our counsel to help them avoid unnecessary headache and pain as they journey through life.

All of these things are available to us from God. But we need to listen to His voice—keep His commands—fix our eyes on Him, otherwise we will miss out on all He has for those who love Him and do what pleases Him.

The operative word in this passage is, “Only”—“only if you listen to His voice…” So simple, yet at times we can make it difficult. Just as it is with our own children, everything we have is theirs—at their disposal, so it is with God. However, the provision is available only for His children. And it is His children that hear and obey His voice and His commands.
