Psalm 33:12-22
Proverbs 9:1-6

Verse of the day:

Bring the best of the first fruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. (Exodus 34:26)

When God is first in your life everything falls into place. In Exodus 34 God mentions several areas where he must come first with the Israelites.

Verse 19 tells us that the firstborn of all livestock belongs to God. Clean animals must be sacrificed while unclean animals must be redeemed by the sacrifice of a clean animal in its place. God didn't say wait until you have 10 lambs and then give me the 10th lamb. God asks for the first lamb; before you know if there will even be a second lamb.

Verse 26 tells us that the firstfruits belong to God. Don't wait until you're confident that you've got a bumper crop on your hands; give to God first.

God is honored when we put him first because this requires faith. It's why God was pleased with Able's sacrifice who brought his firstborn lamb while he was displeased with Cain's offering. It's why God would ask Abraham to sacrifice his firstborn son Isaac before Abraham knew if there could be another heir. But consider this: God gave his firstborn for us; God gave his very best!

Look for ways to put God first today. Perhaps that means God gets the first of your time each morning instead of getting the last few minutes before dozing asleep. Perhaps it means you tithe to God in advance for the week or the month, before you are given your paycheck. I don't know what it means for you to put God first but this much is clear: God will only accept first place in our lives. And when God is first everything else falls into place!
