Take A Break!

Verse of the day:
Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath.” (Mark 2:27)
God has given us so many incredible gifts for our benefit and our enjoyment. One of these incredible and thoughtful gifts is the gift of the Sabbath. This is such a beneficial and important gift (especially to our sanity) that God even commands that we keep it. Exodus 20: 8-11 says, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”
We are to work hard and be productive for the majority of the week but on the seventh day we are to follow God’s example and rest. Have you ever thought about what a kind and thoughtful gift that is? When God created our world He wasn’t burned out and exhausted after six days and needed to rest- He was modeling something that He knew would be important for us!
So how can we take a Sabbath well? First we need to acknowledge the gift giver! Spend time with God and thank Him for giving you the gift of rest! Spend time with His people and discuss the good things that God has done and encourage one another. The day should bring life and rejuvenation! Second- don’t fill the day up with work and activities! Sometimes our days off of work end up being spent running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get tons of stuff done. That’s not restful! Make sure that you take some time to rejuvenate! Give yourself permission to rest! Follow God’s example! It’s ok! You really can take a break! Remember this is a gift! It was given to us to meet our needs!
