Verse of the day:
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation. (Colossians 1:15)
They say the lion is the king of the jungle, but lions don’t live in the jungle. Of all of the water predators, the one that most think of as the fiercest is the Great White Shark. In actuality, the Killer Whale is the apex water beast because it has no natural predators and can take out a Great White Shark like me pushing a two year old. I hate spiders, and centipedes, and basically all insects. But the baddest of them all, which I’m glad doesn’t live in Milwaukee, is the Japanese Hornet. These large wasps are relentless hunters that kill any insect, including the dominant praying mantis. They are armed with an incredibly potent venom that can kill people, and stings prey repeatedly. But that’s not the way they kill their victims, it gets better! This hornet uses it’s sharp, powerful jaws to decapitate it’s food, then cuts the body into small pieces and brings it back to it’s nest to eat. Hope you’re not eating breakfast while you’re reading this.
With all of these animals that amaze, scare, and bewilder us, today’s Scripture reminds us that Jesus is supreme over all creation. As powerful as the lion is, as fierce as the killer whale, as terrifying as the Japanese Hornet, Christ is dominant over all of it. He is the visible, physical proof that God exists. When I think about the Almighty God, the one who created the entire universe and all of it’s complex order and systems, when I think about the fact that He humbled Himself to take on a physical, human form with the purpose of restoring a relationship with me - I’m perplexed and in awe. The one who created the lion, the killer whale, and the awful hornet and who is not limited by time, space, or knowledge came for you and for me. It’s truly amazing!
