One Year Bible Reading Guide:

1 Kings 9:1-10:29
Acts 8:14-40
Psalm 130:1-8
Proverbs 17:2-3

Verse of the day:

Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit. (Acts 8:17)

Have you received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit?

Of all of the things we believe as a church, this might be the thing that sets us apart the most, in a weird and good way. I would guess that most people who went to church growing up, whether casually or on a regular basis, that very few have been Baptized in the Holy Spirit or have even heard of such a thing. And thus, that can make us weird. Hearing the idea of speaking in another language because some unseen supernatural force is creating urges from within can be a little goofy sounding. I get it! It’s even more strange if you’re someone who doesn’t have any church background and questions God’s existence!

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a very real thing. As we read in our verse of the day and throughout the New Testament (especially Acts), people are receiving the Holy Spirit left and right! Peter and John are laying their hands on people in our reading today, praying for them to receive the Holy Spirit, and as people begin to speak in different languages and are very clearly legit baptized, a sorcerer offers to pay Peter and John for this ‘ability.’ I’ve personally experienced the power of being baptized in the Holy Spirit and have had conversations with people who have also received it. It changes you! It’s an unforgettable moment!

Being baptized is a step beyond salvation. It’s the beginning of experiencing the power God has for Christians to live the Spirit-filled life. Do you want that? Do you want to feel more confident in your faith, experience the power of God in a fresh new way, and live differently? Then ask to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit! Take intentional, focused time to ask God for it! When you feel the urge within to just say whatever, go for it! That’s the initial physical evidence that you have been Baptized in the Holy Spirit. If you’re already baptized, make a conscience effort to pray in the Spirit, with your supernatural language, throughout the day. Make it a daily habit! It’s time to get Baptized in the Holy Spirit and live dangerously for and with God!
