When You Feel Discouraged
Posted: Thursday, January 28
Verse of the day:
So Moses told the people of Israel what the Lord had said, but they refused to listen anymore. They had become too discouraged by the brutality of their slavery. (Exodus 6:9)
Discouragement is a powerful tool of the enemy. If he can get us to a place of discouragement he knows that he can tempt us to begin doubting God. That is what happened with the Israelite people who were enslaved in Egypt. They were so close to being freed but the brutal reality that they were still enslaved caused them to lose hope and stop listening to the promises of God.
Where should we put our trust? In our circumstances and what we can see or in God’s promises? We know the Sunday School answer is God’s promises but many of us fall into the same trap that the Israelites did of focusing on our circumstances. The problem with that is we can only see what we can see. We don’t know the future or what God is doing behind the scenes. We may be just on the cusp of break through and aren’t even aware of it.
