Verse of the day:

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16 NIV)

Our Senior Pastor Jerry Brooks often shares a simple question that can be used to examine our personal prayer life.  The question is this:

Can you tell me the time and place when and where you regularly pray?

If we cannot point to the time and place, we likely do not regularly pray.

Jesus modeled consistent prayer for us.

As word spread of Jesus’ teaching healing power, crowds pursued Him.  He was busy.  He was in demand.

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16 NIV)

While people sought Jesus, Jesus made sure he sought time without people.  This must have required an intentional effort to prioritize finding the time and a place for connecting with the Father.

People, tasks, responsibilities and entertainment compete for our time and attention.

Like our Savior, let’s put first time to withdraw to a place where we can be alone to pray.  When we do, we will be far more effective in meeting the rest of life’s demands.
